NDWA Gig Worker Advocates’ mission is to negotiate with gig economy companies, to make work better for domestic workers in the gig economy.

NDWA Gig Worker Advocates is a nonprofit organization, founded by leaders from the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), the nation’s leading voice for the respect and dignity for domestic workers. As the tech sector entered into domestic work with online “gig economy” platforms, NDWA responded by launching NDWA Labs, the innovation arm of NDWA, to experiment with new strategies to make work better for domestic work, using technology. NDWA Labs researched the working conditions of domestic workers in the gig economy, and stepped up to fight against Marketplace Contractor Legislation that swept across the country in 2018.

NDWA Gig Worker Advocates is a 501c4, and operates completely independently of NDWA. When negotiating with companies, NDWA Gig Worker Advocates consults with NDWA, an alliance of more than 60 domestic worker organization, to learn the concerns and issues of domestic workers in the gig economy, to bring to negotiations with gig economy companies. NDWA Gig Worker Advocates was founded in 2020.
