Bringing dignity and respect to jobs in the gig economy.

NDWA Gig Worker Advocates is an independent entity that negotiates with tech companies to make work better by bringing dignity and respect to jobs in the gig economy.

A Breakthrough for Worker Advocates, and Tech.

NDWA GWA and Handy launched a first-of-its-kind effort to make work better for domestic workers who find work online, including thousands of domestic workers on Handy. Workers who find jobs on the Handy app will get benefits and a platform improvement process that could serve as a model for worker voice on other online platforms.

These initiatives are part of a pilot program that will cover 4,500 Handy Pros in Florida, Kentucky and Indiana over an initial two-year period.

The pilot program includes:

  • Guaranteed earnings - of at least $15 per hour.

  • Platform Improvement - A formal process where an advisory committee of Handy Pros will meet with Handy representatives on a regular basis, to offer their expertise on job quality and worker experience.

  • Paid Time Off - Minimum $.75 per hour contributions for Handy Pros which can be used for Paid Time Off through NDWA’s benefits platform Alia.

  • Occupational Accident Insurance - Coverage for on-the-job injuries, associated medical costs, and lost wages.
